Mobile Cycle Repairs

Repairs & Servicing

At Over The Bars we understand that people live busy lives, it's not always easy to get your bike to a shop and then return another day to collect it. No matter where you purchased your bike from, Over The Bars can provide you with the same qualified expertise you will find in a good bike shop with the added convenience that we come to you at a time that's convenient.

Most bike shops have limited space allocated to a workshop and often cramped storage facilities, so you may have to book in advance.

Many bikes shops will only offer repairs for bikes that have been purchased from their shop or at the very least, prioritise repairs for their best customers.

When you calculate the cost of travel (time and fuel) you will see that, unless you live above a bike shop, we offer great value and convenience.

You deal directly with the qualified mechanic who will work on your bike, not the counter staff who will fill out a job ticket.

After an inspection of the bike, you will know how much the repair will cost before we start work and are under no obligation if you don't want to go ahead.

We are here for all your bike related needs from the humble puncture repair, or a cycle safety check through to our full bike strip down service.

It integrates training, experience and assessment in a variety of testing conditions in off-road country.

The syllabus for the course covers:

  • Group Management

  • Responsibilities of the Group Leader

  • Navigation, including micro-navigation, using cycle computers, maps and various

  • scale compasses.

  • Access and Conservation

  • General Skills

  • Technical Skills

  • Coaching

  • Personal Equipment

  • Group Equipment

  • Weather

  • Additional Interests

The 2 day course is mostly practical with DAY 1 being a training day which covers all aspects of the syllabus to ensure the candidate has all the required knowledge and understanding of the content. DAY 2 involves the assessment where the candidate is required to demonstrate a good level of personal, group management, and problem solving skills. There will also be an exam to assess the candidates’ general biking knowledge.

At the end of the 2 days the candidate will either come out with a Level 1, level 2 or they will be deferred in order to consolidate their skills and knowledge.

1. Level One – Non Technical Terrain – allowing access into low-level terrain, with little potential hazards. i.e. country parks, canal towpaths, and non-wilderness areas where help is almost immediately accessible.

2. Level Two – Technical Terrain – allowing access into Wild Country, with the potential hazards that surround such terrain.  For low level ride  below 600m in wilderness areas.

3. MIAS Level 3 (MBL3) -Mountainous Terrain - This is the next step up from the MBL1 & 2. This is a development course for leaders who hold a MIAS level 2. The terrain covered can be above 600 meters and typically involves long descents, large drop offs and rock steps or a combination of technical manoeuvres one after another.
